Best Practice submitted by Valentin Kozlikhin (guide)

Vision of Kamchatka offers mostly hiking trips for visitors focusing on day trips with vehicular support. This way visitors do not have to carry their own gear and the company believes this system provides them with more comfort.

Principle: Safety and quality throughout the tour.

The author of this Best Practice is Valentin Kozlikhin, who works as a guide for Vision of Kamchatka. He writes: “”Providing safety – my main task as a guide is fulfilled with the help of safety techniques instructions, monitoring and assessment of the situation en route in order to manage risk.” Example: When we meet the group, we start by giving safety instructions. This includes information about the route and possible weather conditions. We also show with maps the geography of the route and explain the technical difficulty of the hike. Of course we must check both our own equipment and the tourists’ equipment too. It is important beforehand to find out the tourists’ expectations, their preferences, experience, and physical condition.
